It’s home to the world's longest continuous sidewalk

With a length of 4.5 miles, Bayshore Boulevard in downtown Tampa is known as the "world's longest continuous walkway." This lovely recreational path is popular year-round with joggers and bikers alike, and flanked by palm trees and a panoramic view of the bay.


Ybor City is one of the world's most haunted locations

Ybor City is a neighborhood in Tampa that’s recognized as a U.S. National Historic Landmark. In the early 1900’s, it was known as “the cigar capital of the world”. Today it is mostly known for it lively nightlife scene, but it is also home for a number of ghost tours! In fact, Ybor City's Cuban Club was named "One of the Top 10 Most Haunted Places in the United States." Sounds like a perfect Halloween destination, doesn’t it?


The temperature in Tampa has never surpassed 99 degrees

OK wait, here us out. Despite the unending days of heat and humidity in the area, the temperature in Tampa really has never surpassed 100 degrees! The record is still 99 degrees, but that doesn't mean it never feels like it’s over 100 degrees. There’s a little thing down here called humidity, and during the scorching summer months the heat index hovers well above 100 when you factor it in.

The festival lasts several days and is made up of several parts, including a real-life simulation of the Gasparilla Invasion. There’s also pirate-themed pre-invasion live entertainment and a special brunch.


Babe Ruth hit his longest home run in Tampa

The Great Bambino blasted the longest home run of his career – and in fact all of Major League Baseball’s history - at the old plant field baseball stadium located in downtown Tampa. The baseball legend blasted this record-breaking 587-foot home run against the New York Giants in April 1919.


Florida’s largest port is located in Tampa

While many assume Miami is home to Florida’s largest port, it is in face the Port of Tampa Bay that holds that title. It's also the Panama Canal's nearest full-service port. A number of the leading cruise lines all have homeports here, including Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America, Royal Caribbean International, and Norwegian Cruise Line.


Birdwatching is quite popular in Tampa

Florida's natural surroundings are home to a wide variety of bird species. The Great Florida Birding Trail is a network of over 500 bird watching sites in Florida dedicated to preserving the state's natural bird habitat. Because of its warm temperature, various habitats, and numerous trails and parks, Pinellas County (home to parts of Tampa Bay) is a popular birdwatcher destination.


Tarpon Springs has the greatest proportion of Greek Americans of any city in the United States

Tarpon Springs is a neighborhood located on the bay in northwest Tampa, and per capita is home to more people of Greek heritage than any other city in the United States. It’s the place to go for some excellent Greek food and a charming walk through The Greektown Historic District.


Lots of popular movies were shot here

Tampa Bay might just be Hollywood’s go-to locale when filming a movie set in Florida. The list of movies filmed in the area includes Cocoon, Summer Rental, Edward Scissorhands, Magic Mike, Spring Breakers, Dolphin Tale, The Parent Trap II, My Girl, and Goodfellas….just to name a few.
