Top 5 Beaches in the Tampa Bay Area

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

There are many great things about the Tampa Bay area, but perhaps the thing we’re most known for is our spectacular, white-sand beaches. Tampa Bay is comprised of several coastal cities, and the beach is definitely one of the best areas to live in Tampa.

In this article, we’ll do a countdown of the top 5 beaches in the Tampa Bay area that you absolutely must visit when in the area.

Honeymoon Island State Park

A 4 mile stretch of sparkling white sands and calm waters, Honeymoon Island houses beautiful beaches that will knock your socks off. Along with these beautiful stretches of land, the island offers plenty of bird observatories and natural trails.

For nature lovers, the Rotary Nature Center has new things for you to learn about nature. Complete with children’s parks, restaurants, and other beach-resting amenities, the Honeymoon Island is a dreamer’s paradise that’s perfect for families.

A ferry also shuttles beachgoers to nearby Caladesi Island, which was recently voted America's Best Beach.

Pass-a-Grille

This historic beach will feel like something from another era. With the beautiful stretch of white sands and the clear blue water, along with cute bungalows and local restaurants, Pass-a-Grille is a beach that will make you want to stay there forever.

If you visit Pass-a-Grille, don’t forget to take a picture with the pink birthday cake look-alike Don Cesar Hotel as your background. If you really want to knock your socks off, be sure to stay until the sunset.

Clearwater Beach

This active, social beach is likely to be full of activity almost anytime you visit - from morning walkers to mid-day beach volleyball games to the Pier 60 sunset celebration each night. With its soft, sugar-white sands and clear blue-green waters, it’s no wonder this beach was named TripAdvisor’s #1 Beach in America in 2019, 2018 and 2016. It was also named the #6 Beach in the World in 2019.

Indian Rocks Beach

Located south of Clearwater, Indian Rocks Beach has small-town charms with mom-and-pop accommodations, vacation cottages, and seasonal rentals lining the white sandy beach. On many parts of the beach, you will find sand dunes restored with native vegetation, such as sea grapes and sand grasses. If you’re someone looking to head off the beaten path for some much-needed tranquillity, this is the beach for you.

Fort De Soto State Park

This is the beach for the adventurers at heart. Packed with activities like biking, fishing, kayaking, and more, Fort De Soto State Park is a hub of outdoor recreation. You will also find native wildlife in its natural habitat. At low tide, check out the impressive sand bar at North Beach #1 to find shells and sand dollars.

This beach is perfect for an outdoorsy family getaway. Come camp on the beach under the starry skies and listening to the sound of the waves lapping onto the shore.
